You are a
Mentor

You hold the tension of diverse perspectives

Mentors are Paradoxical believers.

People with paradoxical faith are multi-perspective believers.

They re-examine faith, embrace paradox and seek deeper truths.

Core Quality

Mentors welcome widely different perspectives and hold onto the tension between them.

Purpose and Goal

Mentors are at a stage in their lives where they are becoming more aware of the Mystery in all of life. This awareness leads to a deep sense of okay-ness. They feel completely whole and at peace. This feeling of being adequate enables them to accept and believe what cannot be fully understood or explained. This makes them experienced and trusted advisers. They are not trying to convince everyone to agree with them. They receive all widely different perspectives and hold onto the tension between them. They feel less and less driven to defend their own perspectives.

Mentors welcome opinions that are different from theirs. They know that we all come closer and closer to the truth when there are many strangers in dialogue. When talking to people, Mentors focus on the deeper truths behind the people’s words. They are less and less upset by mismatches.

Their openness to diverse worldviews makes it easier to relate to people with different faith styles than their own, without being condescending. God’s presence is experienced on the deeper levels in themselves, others and creation. They transcend superficial differences.

Faith Drivers

What are the next steps for Mentors on their journey of faith?

Mentors have the ability to hold onto widely different ideas at the same time. They can hold the tension between perspectives that sometimes seem at odds with each other.

Mentors have the skills to carefully listen and package their advice gently. Even though they may possess all kinds of accumulated wisdom they know the people they are engaging with aren’t vessels into which they pour their insights. Mentors could learn and practice to listen closely, ask open questions to dig deeper and act as a sounding board.

Mentors would enjoy exploring inter-church, inter-denomination and inter-faith dialogues.
